of mummy and daddy… just after it rained/ my mother left for market/ leaving me with a neighbor/ doris’s mother/ doris/ a beauty
of mummy and daddy… just after it rained/ my mother left for market/ leaving me with a neighbor/ doris’s mother/ doris/ a beauty
and humanity was empty/ except for his bones/ blood and bare flesh/ and humanity found word in multiple/ and humanity realized/ like his weaver/ that only words can fill this gap/ created by the heart in his body
This maiden literary prize is established by Friends of the Late Princewill Nnaemeka Okigbo to commemorate the memory of the young man renowned for his love of literature and an unnatural zeal to always reach out to his friends
The winning entries will be announced in Owerri on the 18th October 2019 (Okigbo’s birthday) at an event, “An Evening for Okigbo”–an evening of talks, poetry, drama, music, art and science exhibitions to be organized in conjunction with Ngiga Book Club
